Ideas for how we need to make some of our dreams happen. (great idea to start this list)
Staff Training Ideas
Working in the peer coaching model - participants support each other in working on a tech and core curriculum task - for example, working on how to develop SMART lessons for algebra. Tie into the most recently implemented curriculum area (like in 10-11, math because it was in implementation phase in 09-10, or science/social because it will be in implementation phase in 10-11). Tie it to something people have to do anyway
Fishbowl - staff relieve each other or get subs to allow people to go into other classrooms to observe SMART lessons in action
SMART Tech Tips - focused tech tips just about SMART use. Tie directly to curriculum needs happening RIGHT NOW (like above)
For 10-11 Lisa has a contact in Forest Lake who can do Mac-specific Notebook training for us during fall inservice.
Digital Video Cam Deployment
Staff Training:
Obligatory week to have and use the cameras, then share out lessons via a page on the wiki? We would need wiki training first.
Videos on our wiki that staff get access to a few weeks before their turn with the cameras?
Is it even possible to publish and where can you publish videos - media release policy - figure this out and disseminate info
Kids bringing their own technology to school:
Establish the purpose and uses - think hard about if the uses we would have them doing are worth a blanket "you can have anything you want here any day" or more like "on x day you can bring x piece of technology to school for x purpose." And how will they know that up front? Like, a little symbol by the day's calendar? Or, it's only on special occasions with a lot of front loading? I really think that it would be beneficial to have it on specified days.. At least at the beginning so we can see how it works...
Define with kids what are appropriate uses
Address any security concerns (do we need locks on lockers if we are going to invite kids to be bringing in laptops?) Network Security is an issue as well. In general personal computer are not allowed on the network. ~Andy
Will they bring the tools daily or just some days? In my head, there would be certain days only.It went great!
D efine consequences for misuse
Will it be a whole-school change or just one team/hood? In that case, clarifying with people who work with all kids what are expectations around these tools - like can the phones be out at recess? Or used in specialist classrooms?
Parent information about why and how the tools are being used at school
Find out what is the 916 policy
Laptops: if the district policy is not to connect personal laptops to the wireless network, then is it even worth it for kids to bring them? Depends on use, I suppose . . . but I would guess many applications would need network connectivity. Or is it an opportunity to learn about virus scanning/safety? I hadn't thought about this.. huge bummer to have to worry about this.. Perhaps we can find a way to work around this???:)
Starting a VCCS Delicious List
Creating a sign-in, etc. for a list (Kelli did this ;) already) You rock!

Staff training including the Common Craft video about what is social bookmarking, brainstorming how this list could benefit us
Curriculum committees and/or PLCs and/or small groups brainstorm a common list of tag ideas, emphasizing the power and importance of multiple, accurate and varied tags, maybe establishing criteria for what is a worthwhile website (based on the 1-5 scale we use for voice level? With a 5 being an outstanding website that looks like _)
Year-long weekly e-mail sharing of a selected site from the list
Can the Delicious bookmarklets be put on all staff computers? (this would have to come before the staff training so that people could start using it right away)
Make a one-page instruction sheet with login info, how-tos, tag ideas, tagging have-tos (I'm thinking at least the name of who adds link . . .)
Reinstatement of student e-mail (lines stricken are done)
Parent information goes home via newsletter or another format?
Need to look at responsible use form - who can monitor e-mail and when? Administrators? Homebase teachers? Tech personnel? Randomly? Upon reporting of a problem? For example, while I recognize that e-mail in the workplace is not private, I also would not expect anyone to be reading my e-mails randomly just because they could, and should we expect a lower standard for students? Maybe yes, maybe no, but worth the discussion.
Clarify: Can parents have their kids' passwords or not (or maybe this is already known from our previous issues)
Provide staff with a responsible use lesson, or can we do a responsible use "town hall meeting/assembly" about e-mail, so that all hoods and all kids hear the same message? Or can we do a video or online training module to ensure all kids are getting the same expectations about e-mail use? Perhaps using come screen-o-cast videos and such... create a video or voice thread?
Setting up e-mails without kid last names
Kid-generated Y charts for e-mail use
Tell the 4-6 homebase teachers it's coming back and kids will be expected to use/know how to appropriately use? Or do they already know?
